TOP TEN Ways to Reduce Allergen Exposure at Home

Encase mattress, box springs and pillows with mite proof casings.
Hot water wash all stuffed animals & bed linens at least once weekly.
Have your HVAC inspected and serviced 2 times a year and change pleated filter every 1-3 months.
Remove bedroom carpet, soft objects and clutter.
Try to keep humidity at less than 50% (at least don't ADD humidity).
Use vent fans when cooking and when bathing to remove moisture.
Find new home for pet ( or Keep pet OUT of bedroom and bathe 2 times a week).
Use Allergen containment vacuum or bags.
Minimize VOC sources in home. (e.g. NO SMOKING, CANDLES, INCENSE, strong cleaning chemicals, kerosene heaters, etc.).
Fix leaks and clean up mold.

Patch test: This procedure is used in the evaluation of contact allergies. Consist in the application of two “large stickers” that contain different irritants that are most commonly associated to contact dermatitis. It is applied in the office and read at 48 and 72 hours.
